ProjectThe Austrian flagship project PhysICAL – Physical Internet through Cooperative Austrian Logistics – ran from 1 June 2020 to 29 May 2025 in the programme “Mobility of the Future”, led by Fraunhofer Austria, with 16 partners.

Pilot Supply Chain 3.0Doz. Mag. Alexander Nikolaus Stelzer, LL.M. LL.M. Ph.D. brought the institute’s concept E-Commerce 3.0 into the project and represented it there as the pilot Supply Chain 3.0, in work package 5 “Cooperative logistics in e-commerce”. PhysICAL describes the result as “the first real trading house in the virtual world for collaborative fulfilment”.

Achieved, as of May 2025A market-ready Global.Web.Shop; an own fulfilment and logistics unit for around 1,000 products; a transferable fulfilment and e-commerce process that can be implemented collaboratively. According to FFG, up to 15 % fewer empty runs thanks to the open platform and the Supply Chain 3.0 approach.

GoalTo launch three SMEs with around 1,000 products and 15 jobs. This is how Fraunhofer Austria presented it at the Technology Talks Austria 2025.
